How to Clean Baby Bassinet?

How to Clean Baby Bassinet

Do you want to know how to clean baby bassinet? In this post, I will share with you tips on how to do it easily.

A bassinet is an integral part of everyone’s childhood. Doctors recommend that babies should sleep in the same room with their parents but on a separate bed. Surveys suggest that now more and more families use bassinets, thanks to the convenience and safety they offer. Babies sleep in the bassinet while their parents rest easy, knowing that the baby is safe and next to their bed. All in all, bassinets have made parenting a lot easier.

With that out of the way, it’s of utmost importance to keep the bassinet clean. We can’t stress enough that your baby should always sleep in a clean place. Babies, newborns, in particular, don’t have a strong immune system, and they’re at a high risk of getting infections. Hence, you should always keep the bassinet clean so that your cutie pie stays safe from infections and other diseases.

But how to clean the baby’s bassinet? Many parents find it challenging, and they often fail to clean the bassinet properly. If you don’t know how to clean your baby’s sleeping place, you won’t be able to clean it thoroughly. This is because, unlike sheets or toys, there are many tight areas in a bassinet that are hard to reach. This may expose your baby to many health risks. So today, we aim to discuss how you can clean your baby’s bassinet.

How to Clean Baby Bassinet?

The bassinet is a key piece of equipment that allows parents to put down their child during sleep. Babies spend the majority of their time sleeping, so it’s important for this surface to be clean at all times.

Here are some easy steps that you can follow in order to clean your little angel’s bassinet thoroughly. Before we discuss them, be mindful that there are many models of bassinets in the market, and they are built differently from each other. Thus, they are to be cleaned differently, too. But here, we’d discuss the steps that you can follow in cleaning pretty much every kind of bassinets.

Things You’ll Need

Before we jump onto the procedure of cleaning the bassinet, here are some things that you’d need to clean. Make sure you have all of them so that you don’t realize it midway that you have forgotten an important tool.

  • Laundry detergent or liquid soap
  • Cleaning cloth (soft towel)
  • Spray bottle
  • Warm water
  • Toothbrush

If you don’t have a spray bottle, you can use any bottle or a container filled with warm water as an alternative. It will also serve the same purpose, i.e., moisten the cleaning cloth. But we recommend using a spray bottle as it would make the whole process a bit easier. Both things would do the job nevertheless.

The procedure of cleaning the bassinet is as follows.

Read User Manual

Like every product for babies, bassinets also come with a user manual. It has instructions that help you take full advantage of the product. Before you clean your baby’s bassinet, consider reading the user manual first, as it would have the cleaning instructions from the manufacturer. Please read all the details of the material and fabric to get a better understanding of it.

Prepare the Spray Bottle

The next step is preparing your spray bottle. Add one teaspoon of laundry detergent in warm water and then close the bottle. If you have liquid soap, a few drops will do it. The amount of soap and detergent depends upon the amount of warm water, so make sure you prepare a balanced mixture. Once you have added the liquid soap, give the bottle a shake so that it combines properly.

Remove the Bedding

The thing that gets dirty more than any other thing is bedding and linen. Take them off as they are to be cleaned separately. Some bassinets come with extra linings or hoods. See if they’re removable, and if they are, remove them too and see if they need cleaning or not. Removing things and washing them separately are more effective.

Apply Solution and Clean the Pieces

Once you have taken off the aforementioned pieces, apply the warm water and liquid soap solution to get rid of stains. Use a cleaning cloth, such as a duster or towel, to wipe down the stains. One thing to bear in mind is never to rub the fabric forcefully, or you may end up damaging the fabric. Again, this is why reading the user manual is important. It would have the instructions, such as appropriate water temperature for each part and how harshly they can be treated.

Dampen the Frame and Surroundings

Now dampen the frame of your bassinet a bit. Be mindful that you only need to dampen the frame, not soak it. Spray the water using the spray bottle. Another thing to keep in mind is that bassinets are made of different materials. So they can’t be treated the same way. Let’s discuss some most common materials of bassinets and how they should be treated.

It goes without saying that metal should be cleaned carefully due to its rusty nature. Of course, you don’t want any rusty spots on your baby’s bassinet. Make certain to clean the metal surface using a lighter spraying action.

It’s no secret that water damages the wood. If wood remains damp for a long time, it gets damaged. This is why you should never spray water directly and use a wet cloth to get things done. Rub that cloth politely till the stain is removed.

Among all the materials, plastic is the most flexible one. This is why now most bassinets are made of plastic. You can clean it easily using a spray bottle or a wet cloth. However, watch out for metal bolts or any component made of different material which may rust or get damaged.

Use a Toothbrush to Deal With Tight Spaces

Tight spaces are the main reason why cleaning the bassinet is a difficult task. To remove dirt from tight spaces, use a toothbrush. This would mean that the bassinet is cleaned thoroughly.

Let it Dry

Now that you have cleaned the bassinet give it some time to dry. It’s also a good idea to wipe all the pieces with a clean cloth. You can also keep it under the sun for some time. But be mindful that exposing the bassinet to direct sunlight for a long time can fade its colors.

Now reassemble all the pieces. If you’re not sure about it, read the user manual. That’s it! Your cutie pie’s bassinet is now clean and ready for your baby.

How to Clean Baby Bassinet

How can I make my newborn’s bassinet more comfortable?

Remove everything that may disturb your baby’s sleep. See if there are any toys or pillows, and if found, remove them. Moreover, make sure that the mattress is firm and comfortable. The bassinet sheet should also fit perfectly.

Can I put a blanket on the bassinet?

Putting a blanket on the bassinet is a good idea as you want to keep your baby warm. Blankets come in handy when it comes to keeping a newborn warm. Furthermore, they are easily washable.

Can you steam clean a bassinet?

Steam cleaning a bassinet is possible, but it may not be the best option. By steam-cleaning the bassinet you would risk some of the parts becoming warped or damaged due to exposure to high temperatures. A better alternative is to use a damp cloth and wipe down the surfaces of the bassinet. Bassinets are typically made of wood, so they are designed for hand cleaning.

It is best to use a mild dish soap and water.

If the bassinet mattress has stains, it can be laundered in your washing machine on the gentle cycle without any bleach. Hang dry and then put the mattress back into the bassinet after it completely dries.

How do you clean urine out of a bassinet?

Bassinets are often used as temporary beds for infants until they outgrow their cribs. When parents notice that the infant urinates in the bassinet, it is important to clean the urine immediately to prevent bacteria from growing and causing an infection. If your child has wet his or her bed, follow these steps to remove urine stains:

  1. Place a layer of paper towels over the wet area and let them soak up all of the liquid. This will help absorb some of the moisture so you can later use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment.
  2. Next, place another layer of paper towels on top of those soaked ones and allow this one to soak up more liquid before proceeding again with yet another layer if needed.
  3. Vacuum the area with a hose attachment. This will pick up any remaining liquid and anything else that may be hiding in the fibers of your mattress or bassinet.
  4. Mix 1 cup of cool water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, and 4 drops of dishwashing soap together in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on to stains until they disappear. This will kill bacteria and remove stains.
  5. If your vacuum cleaner can be fitted with a water hose, run the water over the area until the bottom of the mattresses or bassinet is completely dry.

How do you clean a co sleeper bassinet?

Regularly wash the exterior of the bassinet with soap and water to remove dirt, dust, and other particles from the material. To clean more difficult stains, start by removing as much of the stain as possible from a white cotton cloth with a gentle detergent. Next, apply a small amount of bleach or baking soda mixed with water to a rag or sponge and gently wipe it over the surface of your co sleeper bassinet.

For extra cleaning power use Vremi’s Mop Floor Cleaning Towel which is made out of 201 Premium Soft Microfiber Cotton that absorbs up to 7 times its weight in moisture on one side and has an excellent grip on all surfaces on the other side! You can also use this wet towel to clean off your walls , cabinets, and ceiling with a little rubbing alcohol.

Once the exterior is completely dry, you can use any standard sewing machine or household drill to make small holes along the inside of the edge. This will allow water and air to still freely flow through as normal, but also prevent dirt from entering as well!

Keeping the bassinet clean is important as it ensures your little angel’s safety. However, cleaning a bassinet could be a difficult task since they are made of different materials, and tight spaces make it even more difficult. We have discussed how you can clean your baby’s bassinet properly. Before you start, make sure you have all the things that would be used. Also, make sure to read the user manual first so that you don’t end up damaging the bassinet.
